SaltyHag Studio: Take Two

Back in the shack for another year. The interim months have been months of change. And l feel that l’m viewing many things in a new light. The studio’s first year was the realization of a long desire to have a space, create treasures and hope the lovely folks who were kind enough to pop in would find something to cherish.

That first season was enjoyable. The pace was perfect. The people so appreciative and the rewards were great. In preparation for this year my first step was to really examine what worked in that trial year. Interaction was far and away a key pleasure. For sure, having people linger for a free beverage and a treat from the cookie jar is my favourite thing.

This year is a very different year. I’ve had little foot traffic because really, l haven’t advertised much. The new and exciting thing is that l’ve had quite a few wholesale customers. The last order was large enough that urgent restocking is priority plus! In particular, l need to replenish needle felted pieces and create as well as restock my cards.

My focus occasionally turns to a commissioned order. On the drawing board now are doodles of fairies, doves, bunnies and butterflies and ladybugs perched on flowers. These will be components for a fun mobile for a babies room. I will collect some photos of my work through this project and create a blog with them soon.

The summer is flying by! Preparations for Seaside Christmas are already in the beginning stages. Those of you who visited last November will know that my rustic building presented challenges. My wee woodstove was no match for the cold and the wind. To make your SaltyHag visits a little more comfortable, in November and December, l hope to “pop-up” in the space adjacent to Wayne Colette’s “Shipshape Barbershop” at 8839 #7 Hwy. In Musquodoboit Harbour.

lt’s already August! The shop is open. I’m here in the shop most days felting. My hope is to have a bunch of sweet things ready for Seaside Christmas so l will be on site, working away every Monday, Thursday, Friday and Saturday From 10am until 5pm…Hope to see you!
